GreenZ - It's What’Z Adventurous for Dinner

By David Currier

For most American foodies, salads are a highly appreciated art form that is frequently neglected when dining at home. GreenZ to the rescue!

At the office, water-cooler chatter often includes comments about "eating a salad tonight to help lower my cholesterol and drop a few pounds." Or, “I think I'll have a big salad for dinner instead of meat and potatoes."

Ultimately, at 6:30 pm we can't find the creativity needed to construct Z-salad that satisfies our hunger. Our great ideas become fantasy.

No more. GreenZ has changed the GreenZcape on Dallas' tables.

In addition to the casual, McKinney Avenue (Dallas) dining cafe where you can enjoy creative appetizers, soups, salads and desserts, GreenZ offers take-out and delivery services.

Imagine your dining table set with a seven-inch, hollowed-out, hard crusted bread bowl filled with steaming Jack cheese chicken soup garnished with fresh green onions and a dash of paprika.

And the bowl becomes your bread accompaniment for your GreenZ fresh apple walnut salad, a mesclun mix complimented by fresh slices of tart apples, toasted walnuts and warm brie pastries, all drizzled with an original champagne vinaigrette.

If totally vegan dining is not what you need tonight, then sharpen your knife along with your appetite as the “Bar None” salad features strips of flank steak in your mixed greens. Or, feast on “BBQ Texas Slaw” of green and red cabbage, carrots celery and red onions topped with flavorful slices of barbecued pork, with peppery vinaigrette.

Your salad cravings will be satisfied with one of five vegan salads (which can be ‘de-veganed’ with grilled chicken or steak) or the seven varieties for carnivores – featuring Hawaiian tuna, chipotle chicken (their most popular and understandably so), or panko shrimp.

GreenZ offers frequent specials, some for take-out party platters, such as flour tortilla pinwheels with layers of baby spinach, goat cheese and candied pecans. They’re wonderful! Or the eye-catching shredded chipotle chicken with sparkling sun dried tomatoes and Monterrey jack cheese wrapped in a tomato-basil tortilla is party-perfect with a delicious kick from the smoky chipotles. (Too many restaurants offer “chipotle something”, and the kick of the pepper is disappointingly missing. Not at GreenZ. GreenZ does chipotle right.)

Salads are priced from $7 – 9. Customers that dine at the restaurant may choose from a selection of delicious wines and beers, as well as soft drinks, iced tea and bottled water.

Z-party or Z-office menu for take-out or deliveries offers most of their special salads in quantities that serve five to six people. At $45 – 55 each, GreenZ delicious and healthy salads provide a refreshing alternative to familiar meat-‘n-cheese party trays. Their soups in bread-bowls are also available – and, to ensure the freshness of the presentation, you pour the soup into the prepared rolls back at party-central.

GreenZ has not forgotten those of us with a sweet tooth either.  Scrumptious oatmeal-raisin cookies, brownies or lemon squares and seasonal pumpkin rolls are beckoning you to indulge.

Our GreenZ experience at the restaurant was refreshingly low key – from the friendly smiling staff, efficient service, tasty entrée choices, wines and desserts, six of us enjoyed great conversation and GreenZ-class for over two hours.

And while many creative, high-quality dining options in the Dallas area come at a premium price - be it lunch or a light dinner, GreenZ challenges that tradition.

GreenZ, at 2808 McKinney Avenue @ Worthington in Dallas, provides great taste and value and leaves some greenz in your wallet, too. Open Monday – Saturday, 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, delivery is offered Monday – Friday.
